Choosing an eye doctor:  When you choose an optometrist there are some major points to keep in mind:

Optometrists are well educated, licensed to practice in the respective state, and have the proper and adequate training to diagnose, treat, and prevent eye disease.  They can prescribe corrective lenses to assist in improving vision and, if needed, may prescribe medication for basic diseases of the eye.

Experience does count. An optometrist with more experience will be better able to detect eye disease and diagnose disorders.  Ask your optometrist how long they've been in business. An established business shows they have already dealt with a variety of issues and types of clients.

A qualified optician will assist you in interpreting a prescription to decide what lenses are best suited to meet your individual needs.

Select an eye doctor who can assist your specific needs.  Your optometrist will provide your general eye needs but may also recommend an eye specialist for more complicated vision problems or health concerns.

Browse your options.  Review the products or services you are most interested in when you go in for your appointment.  This will help your doctor better assist your specific needs.
