More Than Just an Itch
Dry Eye Syndrome is the name of a condition that affects more than 10 million Americans. Symptoms of Dry Eye Syndrome are eyes that are dry, itchy, irritated and uncomfortable.
The problem with Dry Eye Syndrome is that too many people simply pass it off as something that is just caused by their contact lenses, the dry climate where they live or a number of other factors.
If you suffer from any of the symptoms of Dry Eye Syndrome, Drs. Andy and Patty Champion at Champion Eye Center can help get your eyes refreshed and vibrant once again.
The Champions will examine your eyes to determine if you do have Dry Eye Syndrome. They will then chart a corrective course that will help you get your eyes moist and irritation-free.
Causes of Dry Eye Syndrome
One of the most common causes of Dry Eye Syndrome is not blinking enough from staring at the same object for prolonged periods of time. Anyone who works at a computer all day is much more prone to Dry Eye Syndrome.
Here are some other common causes of Dry Eye Syndrome:
- Contact lenses
- Prolonged exposure to outdoor elements
- Medications like anti-depressants, antihistamines and birth control pills.
Dry Eye Syndrome Treatment
Drs. Andy and Patty Champion will determine the causes of your Dry Eye Syndrome and will work with you to create the best treatment plan. In some cases, lubricating eye drops can be prescribed to remedy the problem.
There are other treatment options, but one common mistake that people make with Dry Eye Syndrome is to use any over-the-counter eye drops. While these eye drops might temporarily ease the redness and irritation of Dry Eye Syndrome, they will not treat the core problem. In other words, they cover up the problem instead of correcting it.
